Product Information & Instructions

Dye Set Penetrant is a carpet-dyeing chemical additive intended to help dye solutions penetrate carpet fibers and promote more uniform dye application.

In carpet color restoration, a penetrant can help the dye solution wet the fibers more evenly, reducing surface beading and improving distribution during application.

Common applications

• Full-room carpet dyeing and color changes.
• Restoring faded or discolored carpet.
• Spot dyeing and carpet color repairs.
• Improving dye penetration during professional carpet dyeing.

Important: A dye penetrant is not necessarily a dye fixative. Penetration and permanent dye fixation are different chemical functions.

Mixing instructions:

Mix 1 oz. od Dye Set Penetrate per gallon of dye solution. Also add 1 oz. of AmeriColor pH Stabilizer per gallon when using the two chemicals separately. 

Application procedure

• Verify that the carpet is dyeable nylon or wool.
• Thoroughly clean the carpet and remove cleaning residues.
• Prepare the dye solution according to the carpet dye instructions.
• Add 1 oz. Dye Set Penetrant per gallon of prepared dye bath.
• Add 1 oz. pH Stabilizer per gallon and check the pH.
• Apply the heated dye solution evenly using appropriate carpet-dyeing equipment.
• Work the solution uniformly into the carpet fibers and extract excess dye as directed.
• AmeriColor recommends heating the dye solution to at least 140°F for proper dyeing. Always test a small inconspicuous area first.
